Boardman Lake, Mt Loop Hwy 6-3-12

For a late starting hike, and leaving enough time to get back home for some golf, Dave & I selected Boardman Lake Trail off of the Mountain Loop Hwy.  This 2 mile round-trip hike is easy, but well worth the trip out.  I had never done this one, and was pleased to find that not only does the trail end at a lake, it starts out at one as well.  Evan Lake is just .1 in from the trailhead, making it an easy destination for families with tiny hikers.

Spring is just arriving in this area, and skunk cabbages are still just opening up in the boggy areas. Snow still covers a few parts of the trail, but it's just in patches and very easy to traverse.
Boardman Lake was beautiful nestled against the craggy hills.  It was also still mostly frozen over.  We picnicked on a nice rocky outcrop and tried a little fishing in the thawed out lake edge. We didn't even get a nibble, but it was still fun.

There was a fun log jam crossing over the outlet creek to the side of the lake we visited.  The dogs went back and forth a few times.

Another great thing about this hike was the forest itself.  It was a beautiful big forest, and though it had been logged at one time, there are some large trees there.

Let's zoom in on that last one!  : )
